Who is We Are Hairy People
Hello! I’m Sarah, and I’ve been running this unique fashion brand since 2011.
We did an art exhibition, all the way back in university, about 💚love💚, so I made some T-shirts to express the infinite value of the wearer. These could be taken from the exhibition for free, but the visitors started a donation pot for me, which showed me that in return, me and my art felt valuable to them too.🥹
We Are Hairy People has taken many forms over the years, but this purpose-heart has never wavered.
Whilst getting my paintings in to ASOS marketplace, festivals, the clothes show live, Topshop London & Bristol, Urban outfitters, ASOS, Lucy & Yak, Pangaia, Lefrik and BigWildThought, I have always made sure that my art is uplifting, expressive, unique and personal, and have run social enterprise ventures alongside. From running workshops, community events and campaigns, all the way to self-funding a permanent community art studio in Bristol- where I was helping other artists with mental health difficulties, to develop and find their path while providing work and a supportive community- I have poured everything I have in to that initial message of each person having infinite value, and doing everything for a purpose.✨
Alongside this, I’ve managed to develop and pull the 🍄sustainability🍄 of the brand up to a level I’m very proud of and will always improve.
I took a 1.5 year break from WeAreHairyPeople after I got my Autism and ADHD diagnosis in 2022, as I had overstretched myself with all these achievements as well as seeing my 2 beautiful children growing up very quickly. 👨👩👧👦 I was able to create my own unique role within Lucy and Yak, as their in-house artist and upcycler, helping them to sell some of their overstocked pieces by giving them a very unique upcycle. 🎨Not many brands would create a role within their company for someone like me, so they’re very special.🌈
I’ve come back to We Are Hairy People in 2024, having adjusted to my diagnoses, and overcome my anxiety disorder through counciling, and I’m super excited to see how my new approaches go down with the hairy community. While I can’t currently start the social enterprise back up, I’m looking to bring the initial heart of my work through my designs, campaigns, and online community, so keep your eyes peeled.🌝
🦦We Are Hairy People is now here to focus on upcycling your clothes, to save you money and reduce environmental impact. We’re also focussing on pet portraits, because we don’t deserve them and they are so wonderfully loved here, as well as some special prints with classic hairy vibes.
I can pretty much paint everything at this point, and have all the experience, skills and techniques to call myself an expert in my very niche field, so if you’re up for something special and unique, you’ve come to the right place.
Anytime you contact 💌 We Are Hairy People, you’ll be talking directly with me, so anything you need, I’m right here!
